My Team Made Me do it

I’m obsessed with the Enneagram.
I’m sure I’ve shared about my love for the Enneagram a time or two.
My obsession had only intensified when I reconnected with my childhood bestie, Whitney Warne (this is her and I right here), and it turns out, while I was building Dirt Road Candle Co., she became an Enneagram and Emotional Intelligence facilitator.
Our casual conversations were so blowing my mind that I brought her in to work with my team, and it has been awesome to see how we all work together knowing and understanding what makes each other tick.
I knew I was an Enneagram Three, The Competitive Achiever. But what I didn’t know was that I have a super strong Nine influence, The Adaptive Peacemaker. These two motivations combined were spurring many moments at work when I would say, “It’s ok! I got it. You guys go home,” and then I would be in the shop until 8 PM doing it alone.
I didn’t want to “bother” anyone.
What myself and my employees realized during our session was that I was avoiding letting my employees help me, even when they desperately wanted to because they didn’t want me in the shop by myself late at night.
Right after our team session with Whitney, my employees asked me if I would commit to letting them help me, and even asked permission to call me out when I denied their help.
What a game changer that has been.
Letting them help me means they only stay an extra 20 minutes, and I get to go home and have a relaxing evening.
This might seem small, but it has changed the way we work together, and if you own a small business, you know that HOW we work together make all the difference between being profitable or not.
So many of you are building big things with awesome people by your side, and we all need a little help understanding each other to get our work done with the least amount of tension possible.
So there it is friends. I am officially sharing my Enneagram obsession with you. It’s not only been a great investment in my business but my employees have benefited from this information in their personal lives, too!
Just promise me one thing: when you find out your type, tell me what you are!
